Inlay

We just finished up our 3 day Inlay Course with returning Mastery Students. Our three Residents joined us as well. What a fun class. Inlay is one of those design elements that looks so easy but there are definitely some tricks and techniques you need in your kit to do it well. I think all the students found that it’s a lot tougher than it first appears. Day Two I urged everyone to scale back expectations of inlaying something like a life-size monkey puzzle tree and think about stylizing their work a little. Taking the idea of a flower or a bird in flight and paring it down to something readable but not exactly perfect. An impression more than the photograph of the subject. This worked great for everyone as you can see. We got some great sample boards and everyone walked away with lots of ideas percolating for more inlay. Check out information on the Mastery Program and come by to visit our Masterworks Show this Thursday, November 1st, at the Studio from 5 to 8pm, for a juried show of Mastery student work.
